We first spoke to Richard with regards to constructing and supplying a large oak atrium window as part of his home renovations. With the double storey oak atrium set to be the main façade of the house, it was not only to be a beautiful statement window, it was also the first impression of the home. A two-storey window of this nature is not only aesthetically pleasing from the road side, but also pours light into the home creating a light and inviting hub of the house.
We worked off architect drawings of the atrium and supported both the architects and Richard with regards to the structural elements of the oak work.
We have used a direct glazing approach to the window, whereby we create a softwood rebate for the glazing to sit in. From here we then cloaked the glass with air dried oak. This approach enables full stability for the glass, whilst allowing for movement in the oak without any future problems of cracking or water ingress. The air dried oak cloaking mirrors the main oak frame, creating a seamless design and beautiful statement window.
